Pilot study in sentinel node based immunotherapy against colon cancer published
The results of a pilot study in sentinel node based immunotherapy against colon cancer are to be published in the scientific journal Annals of Surgical Oncology. The study, conducted at Karolinska University Hospital, included 16 patients with colon cancer in different stages.
-The article presents interesting preliminary data that show that immunotherapy can be effective against solid tumours and their metastases. It is now very important to conduct further clinical trials, says Ola Winqvist, one of the researchers behind the work.
On Tuesday the work was also presented at the International Conference on Drug Discovery and Therapy in Dubai. The presentation was given by Per Marits, second author of the article.
The sentinel node based immunotherapy described in the article is being further developed by SentoClone AB. The company currently conducts a randomized phase II clinical trial in malignant melanoma.
